Finger
Eleven's (formerly the Rainbow Butt Monkeys) debut album under their
new name, Tip , is full of emotions. And most of them are depressing.
It has fairly complex song structures, and somewhat original guitar riffs.
Vocalist Scott Anderson even has quite the range, as is evident by tracks
such as "Tip" and "Above." But no matter what octave
he is singing at, Anderson definitely let's you know how he feels - very
depressed. The music almost sounds like a more civilized version of Nirvana.
And the comparisons to Our Lady Peace are somewhat accurate, but Finger
Eleven still has its own sound. Every song on the disc is worth listening
to, but none of them are truly standouts.
One of my favorite Canadian
bands, Finger Eleven's alternative sounds deserve four of five stars.
